“A traveler without observation is a bird without wings.” ― Moslih Eddin Saadi

Great Escape Radio host, Jody Maberry, and Director, Lori Allen, introduce us to one of our members, Ken Staeck, another attendee from this year’s Ultimate Travel Writer’s Workshop in D.C.

Ken shares what led him to the DC event…

“Photography is my first love. Growing up my dad, my brother and I always had cameras. Our dad even had a dark room in the house. I was looking for a way to use travel writing as a bridge to photography.”

Ken found information on our travel writing programs through Facebook.

“The information talked about photography along with travel writing. I knew I could take photos but I was a little concerned about the writing. But, I do some writing in my work, so I thought I’d give it a try.”

Ken was able to sandwich the Ultimate Travel Writing Workshop in Washington DC between two business trips. Now he feels that he has the tools to work toward a future after retirement that blends photography with travel writing.

“When I arrived at the workshop my thoughts were: How am I going to write these stories? What am I going to do? So I took a lot of notes and listened to the speakers—many of whom started with nothing and made things happen. Once I sat down and followed the steps, it wasn’t as hard to write a story as my brain told me it was.”

Listen in for more of Ken’s story and to see why he believes traveling with your children helps create solid relationships within a family.

By attending the workshop, Ken lifted the curtain to discover the process of travel writing. He followed the steps he found behind the curtain and is on his way to a new career as a travel writing and photographer.

Which curtain are you the most curious about lifting: travel writing, photography, blogging or video?
