How many times have you laughed over the ridiculous signs you’ve encountered on your travels? Well, keep that camera at the ready…because next time you spot a funny sign, you can send your photo to Signspotting.com. If they decide to publish your photo, they’ll pay you $50… and, if your shot is voted best photo of the year, you’ll win an around-the-world ticket!
Signspotting has been around since 1992 in various formats. It’s been a newspaper column and even a Lonely Planet book. You can view a batch of the latest photos at the website: http://www.signspotting.com .
On the site, you’ll also pick up some useful photo tips… Signspotting recommends taking your shot from several angles, shooting in color, and not letting your friends pose next to the funny sign.
It publishes one photo per week and awards an annual prize for the best photo. Voting time is coming up this May, so submit your sign photos soon for a chance to win a trip around the world.
You can submit either electronically or by snail mail. For further instructions, go to the “submit a photo” section, here: http://www.signspotting.com/upload
So, keep your eyes peeled for those humorous signs. As editor Doug Lansky puts it, “With new signs going up every day, the only way to keep track of them is with an army of travel photographers – in short, you.”
