We all have our own way of settling into a new place and setting ourselves up for maximum enjoyment.

It’s well known that Pope John Paul II used to kiss the ground when he arrived somewhere new. And, when he became too old to bend down, helpers would bring handfuls of soil close to his face.

At the other end of the scale is Jennifer Lopez. Newspapers have reported on the two-page-long lists the singer has sent in advance to hotels where she stays. Requests include everything from the usual bottled water, specific soft drinks, and red or white roses…to scented candles from her favorite designer. And, who’d want to be the hotelier responsible for leaving peanut M&Ms — instead of the requested plain ones — in J-Lo’s suite?

I’m cheating a little today. Rather than offer you a travel tip as part of our Strange and Bizarre Travel Tip Series …I’d like to hear about your own arrival ritual. Please join in the fun by sharing it below in the comments section.

Whether you’re a travel saint or travel diva, I’d love to hear from you…
