We’ve collected a bunch of our previously-published e-letters about getting started in photography. And I’m including the first set below.

The information you’re about to receive divides into four parts:

  1. Your camera – how to buy one and then how to manipulate it to get the kinds of photos you want.
  2. Your computer – how to get your pictures off your camera and onto your computer and also how to process them in programs like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
  3. The art of photography – composition, exposure, and light.
  4. Where to sell your images.

Remember, this is a series of articles I plucked from our archives. Some of the information is out-of-date and will need to be updated with things you’ve read or heard from us more recently.

That said, professional photographer Rich Wagner is creating a new video series titled: The Lazy Man’s Guide to Getting Something… Anything (Even If It’s a Picture of My Cat) Published Because I’ve Been Reading This E-letter for More Than A Few Months Now And Still Haven’t Sold My First Photograph.

So if you want a simple video series that connects all the dots for you and shows you where to find everything — including locating the one button on your camera that you’ll need to take the best photos — stay tuned to hear more about this special beginner’s guide.

In the meantime, let’s get started…

The first thing you need to know in Saleable Photography 101 is not actually how to take better pictures or manipulate them on your computer. No. The first thing you need to know is actually where to sell your images. Knowing that, affects the kind of camera you buy and how you use it. It also affects how you develop your pictures on your computer as processing photos for magazines is a lot different than processing your photos for stock or fine art.
