Take a look at these high-selling stock photos: Behind every great stock photograph is a great idea. What do I mean by this? Let’s start by taking a look at the dictionary definition of the word “idea”: i•de•a noun 1. something that you imagine or picture in your mind 2. the aim or purpose 3. a plan of action; an intention Often, the strongest stock photos — the ones that go on to sell well — have an idea or concept behind them that represents something or conveys a strong emotion. If you have a bunch of stock photos, but not a lot of sales, yet, try cultivating some ideas. Lots and lots of ideas. Piece of cake, right? Well, if you’re like me, sometimes the more you try to actively think of really good ideas, the faster they run away. On the other hand, great ideas will sometimes effortlessly come to me in the shower, while I’m out for a walk, driving to the grocery store, or at other unexpected moments. To capture them at these times, I’ve started carrying an ideas book: This way, the next time I’m looking for creative inspiration, I can just open up the notebook and — presto! — I have a whole list of ideas to photograph. Give it a try — get yourself a little notebook for the new year, or start a list on your smartphone, with an app like Evernote or Wunderlist. Either way, I think you’ll love having your ideas right at your fingertips and ready for your camera. — Bonnie Bonnie Caton Creator, Breakfast Stock Club P.S.
