Located approximately 30-miles east of Birmingham Alabama, the lake borders St. Clair and Talladega counties as a 17,000-acre reservoir. Built by the Alabama Power Company in 1965 and positioned in east-central Alabama on the Coosa River, Logan Martin Lake is a place of beauty and serenity that encompasses everything from luxurious real estate to vast natural resources.
This 2,799-acre mountaintop region indulges a broad range of interests. Bunker Tower, previously a fire lookout, attracts visitors of all ages to ascend into the clouds for 360-degree views of the forests, towns, and countryside. Near the tower, Bald Rock Trail is the easiest trail in the park. The wooden boardwalk parallels the original trail, ending with expansive views at the exposed gray-toned Bald Rock. Nearby, Pulpit Rock Trail overlooks the expansive Talladega National Forest. A popular repelling destination, this red-blazed trail demands careful footing and steady balance on boulders and tree roots, but is worth the effort for impressive scenery at the trail’s end.
Sheila fills a large bowl with the ingredients, then transfers the batter to six-quart buckets. Those buckets go into the cooler, and she starts the process again. She’s a busy lady on batter-making days. Sheila said, “We have to keep plenty of batter ready at all times.” Owner Johnny Evans estimates that they use 200 gallons of mix in a day.

Think Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas in the movie Sweet Home Alabama.) It’s off of Highway 157/Alternate Highway 72 West. Meander around the curves and woods on Highway 247, and you’ll be getting close.
