If you’ve enjoyed a press trip, written a travel article for a non-travel niche publication, or had success selling food or travel articles to food-related magazines in the last year, we want to know about it. Tell us your story. If we like it, we’ll pay you for it and publish it in this e-letter.

Here are the articles we’re looking for, more specifically:

** 1. Landing a press trip.

Have you been on a press trip in the last 12 months? Then why not send us a story about it. The point of this article is to give readers a taste of what it’s like to travel for free and then get paid to write about it. Be sure to keep the focus of the article on the experience and how to replicate it, including concise step-by-step instructions. We don’t want your life story… but we do want to know where you found the press trip, how you convinced the company to send you, where you went, what you wrote about, and where your story was published.

** 2. Selling a travel story to a non-travel publication.

Niche publications like alumni magazines, trade publications, in-flight magazines, etc. can sometimes yield high paychecks for travel articles. If you’ve been paid for a travel article in an unlikely place this past year, tell us about it. How did you find out about the niche? What did you write about? How did you pitch the story? How much did it pay?

** 3. A food writing success story.

If you’ve been cashing in on the food trend by selling travel or food articles to culinary publications, we’d like to hear from you. How did you find the publication? What did you write about? How much did it pay? Did you include photos? What kind of advice would you give to someone who wants to do the same?

Payment for an article on one of the above topics is $150 to $200 on publication. Please limit your article to between 600 and 800 words. As we don’t usually work with outside freelancers, there are no Writer’s Guidelines. But we strongly suggest that you familiarize yourself with past issues of The Right Way to Travel to get a feel for our informative (but fun) writing style. You can read our archives here.

If you’ve got a story for us that fits one of the above three topics, here’s what to do:

1. Send an email with ONE brief paragraph introducing yourself.
2. Paste your story into the body of the email.
3. Include your name and contact details.
4. Write “freelance article” in the subject line.
5. Send it to me here.

You won’t likely hear back from us unless we intend to publish your piece. If you don’t hear anything by mid-March, you may send us a brief email to follow up.

The deadline for story submissions to The Right Way to Travel e-letter is Monday, March 9, 2009.
