People love giving advice. Perhaps you’ve heard a few strong opinions about your dreams of getting paid to do what you love. I certainly have. My favorite? “You can’t make a living as an artist.” I love that. It’s proof that other people’s opinions and suggestions don’t really matter. If you want to be successful at anything, all you have to do is find other people who are succeeding… and do what they do. People like reader Deborah Kolb who made it past her first $10,000 in stock photo sales this year by doing what she loves best — taking photos of people. And people like reader Theresa St John, who you heard from last week, who not only takes her camera everywhere, but now sells her photos in stock agencies, to magazines, framed as fine art, AND directly to clients like restaurant and shop-owners. People like Lise Gagne who is at the top of the stock photo industry. Everyone in her life thought she was crazy when she decided to do this for a living. But she did it anyway, and now she makes well into six figures. Like Daniel Nahabedian, who started with no experience, bought a camera, and within the first year of using it made his full-time income from photography. What did these people do to become so successful? There’s one key success factor they all share: They didn’t wait around to be discovered. And they certainly didn’t listen when others told them it wasn’t possible. They got on their feet, got out there, and gave it a try. And they all — every single one of them — had FUN doing it.
